Counselling

One-on-one counselling is a talking therapy which entails a person talking about his/her problems and feelings to a counsellor in a confidential and dependable environment. At Sapphire Women Foundation our counsellors are trained to listen with empathy, help women to manage their challenges and rebuild their self-worth.

SWF, does not encourage women to dwell in the past, rather, we equip them for the next phase of life.

We offer counselling sessions over 8 weeks, depending on client’s circumstance. A session usually lasts for 45 minutes, each week, at the same time, and with the same counsellor. Our counsellors do not dictate or lecture clients on what to do; rather, we suggest and allow them to decide which way to follow.

Our counselling approach was adopted from CARL ROGERS “Client-centred.” In other word, the client is in control and decides what has to be discussed. Our counsellors see clients as equal partners, and not an expert treating a patient. SWF, counsellors are more like a friend who listens and encourages on an equal level. We strongly believe that if our clients’ condition must improve, we must be warm, genuine and understanding.

Our counsellors show empathy, this is the ability to understand what the client is feeling, in other words, the counsellors’ ability to understand the sensitivity and be accurate at the clients feeling and experience in the here-and-now. Clients can benefit from counselling if they willingly want it, and not being pressured into it by friends and family.
